Muhteşem Yüzyıl (in English: The Magnificent Century), known in some countries as The Sultan or Suleiman, the great Sultan, is a 2011 Turkish television series produced by Tims Productions. It is based on the life and rise to power of Suleiman the Magnificent, the sultan with the longest reign in history, and his harem.
The series starred Halit Ergenç as Suleiman, Meryem Uzerli as Hürrem and Nur Fettaoğlu as Mahidevran. During the last season, Uzerli is replaced by actress Vahide Perçin.
It was the most expensive project in the history of Turkish television, with an approximate cost of 500 thousand dollars per episode.1 Only its pre-production had a budget of 4.7 million dollars, of which 2.2 millions were allocated to scenery and costumes.
